South London Lindy Hoppers - our 2016 re-birth
Two years ago this group was created by a few enthusiasts, mostly swing dance musicians in the South London Jazz Orchestra who also love swing dancing. Our affiliation with the umbrella charity South London Community Music helped us to get established.
Since then, Lindy Hop classes have sprung up all over London, and our numbers are no longer viable for meeting up regularly.
So we now offer a different format: meeting near London Bridge on an occasional basis, with several sessions close together, to prepare dance routines such as the shim sham for a specific gig with a live band, and directed as before by our wonderful tutor, Nina Daines.
So if you are not able to commit to a weekly Lindy Hop group, this could work well for you.
Our presentations are informal and designed to engage with our audience, inviting them to join us when performing. No need for a partner but you do need Lindy Hop experience.
We will continue to dance with the South London Jazz Orchestra - www.sljo.org.uk - from time to time. And our ethos of doing our best while having fun has not changed!
In between we will be going to other regular dance classes not part of SLLH or SLCM.
Interested in joining us for an occasional Lindy Hop experience? We hope so!
Please let us know via our contact page on this website so we can include you on our email list. And please share our approach and details with other Lindy Hoppers.
We look forward to seeing you!
